The Count of Monte Cristo [Abridged]
by Alexandre Dumas
Oh! It's as classic as you can desire any story to be. The story of the biblical fall and rise of Edmond Dantes, the vengeance simmered over years, culminating in the carefully planned revenge makes the plot enduring. I can imagine why this book is still so popular after almost two centuries since it was originally published.
While some ideas in the book might seem dated to present-day readers, the underlying emotions and intent are only too universal to be forgotten and resonate with the modern readers too.
