Beautiful, heart-tugging, and so relatable. Many people describe this book as THE quintessential Korean-American book. I would agree, but would like to diverge slightly in that although the book “screams Korean-American”, I got lost so many times in the stories and felt like I was just reading about…humans. I loved this collection because it wasn’t overwhelming, but subtle and sweet (often) in its approach to describing the Korean-American lifestyle. Basically, this book has a lot to offer to non-Koreans too. I especially enjoyed “The Church of Abundant Life” and “Solo Works for a Piano”. Best short stories collection I’ve read in awhile (and I just read like 5 this year alone).
