Preferential Treatment by Heather Guerre

Its smut... with a side of social politics?

I really enjoyed this one. I'm on the lookout always for a good femdom romance book. I have read several, and DNF'd them because the h is always so... unrealistic. I hate the overly-dominate, mean, almost campy femdoms in other books I've read. I actually liked how Kate is very relatable. She's dominant but still feminine. She commands everyone's attention, but not in an insufferable way. She felt very "real." I liked how Mikhail was deliciously submissive, but he was still his own person. And... the plot actually made me think! This book isn't just mindless smut. Of course, there are plenty of spicy scenes. But there's also some serious dialogue about wealth disparity, substance abuse, and the impacts of growing up in extreme poverty. I just couldn't put this book down! I read the whole thing in a day. Will definitely be on the lookout for more books like this one.

The only thing that made me raise a few eyebrows was Mikhail's wishes to not have a safe word. He's supposed to be an experienced sub, how can he be upset about having a safe word? That's like BDSM 101. I'm glad that Kate made him use them, but that was the only times I was seriously disappointed in this book.

In all, I really wish we had more Kate and Mikhail. I found myself really rooting for them in the end.

TLDR: I would recommend this book to people who are interested in sub/dom dynamics, people looking for a good femdom romance, and people looking for smut WITH plot.
