Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews

3.0

I didn't like this one as much as the previous two books. I suspect the main reason is that there were very few new concepts or elements introduced into the world, which subtracts much of the rating. The other thing is that the plot was mostly driven by dumb people making stupid decisions (Erra and Ted mainly), which is always a bad sign.

There were many action scenes, and they were fine, but again, nothing new. Kate only managed to survive because her opponents were dumb, or because she was rescued. Being that much out of her league really left a scar on the reality of the book.

The romance between Curran and Kate seemed to get much more attention here, and it did good - otherwise it would have potentially ended up with 2 stars.
I feel compelled to praise the conclusion of the book (i.e. after the final battle) - it was very cute and - in a weird way - romantic. I'm not a huge fan of romance, but in this quantity (and quality) it was enjoyable.

There also were some minor things I did not like. For example Andrea just disappears at around 80% in the book, and we don't know what happened to her. Honestly, this is a huge oversight... unless the author is planning to do something special with it in the next book.

Anyway, I'll keep reading the series (now that I've come this far...), hoping that it gets better in the next installment.
