❝ Happiness couldn’t be chased or captured or caught. It grew in the together places. ❞

I went into this book knowing that I don't usually like children or teenagers in my romance books, but I love this author and I wanted a standalone book at that moment. This book was a slow and soft exploration of trying to mend broken bonds and learning how to fit together again. This book took it's time to built a friendship first between Luke and Landon. It gave a strong and solid ground for them to grow together and trust each other. A lot of moments were handled with compassion instead of drama and I finished this book with a lot of feelings and the need to add it to my physical collection.

❝ A child can unlove you. A child can look at you and find you wanting, realize you’re not great, not wonderful. Parents don’t get a free pass on a lifetime of love. Blood loyalty doesn’t run upstream. If you’re a terrible parent, there’s no obligation for your child to love you after the nightmares you’ve put them through. A child’s love is hard-fought, hard-won. You have to earn it. ❞
