Shattered Peace by Erin Hunter

I do not usually read Manga, but my 10 year old nephew is currently obsessed with all things Warriors. On a recent visit to the library, he urged me to borrow it. Although he had moved on to the actual novels, this is the book that got him hooked. I can see why.

Especially for young readers, it has a classic story of the young hero who turns his back on the world, only to question that decision. If we are looking at archetypes, Ravenpaw has entered the classic "liminal space" where we go to heal, and grow, and learn about ourselves, before returning, reborn. This is the middle of his story. There is much more to come. (Which is great for young people to read, because, of course, they are in the middle of THEIR stories.)

Despite being in the middle of the story, I was not confused at all. I only wanted to read more because I was interested in the characters.

I recommend this to all readers, but especially for those grownups who have voracious young readers (or even reluctant readers) in their lives. It is fun and thoughtfully constructed.
