Emily St. John Mandel's writing is just superior - vivid details, nuanced character, the right mix of pacing. I felt cold when she was writing about Montreal in the winter, I felt the overwhelming beat of the sounds in a nightclub. She's just a master. I like the pacing of the chapters - some short, and some long. I got a little tired of the back-and-forth perspectives but it generally worked. We all know people who have characteristics like this - and are drawn to dark and dead end paths but take them anyway. This book helped me understand those people a little bit more.
