The Princess Trials by Cordelia Castel

DNF after 7 chapters
The FL (Zea Calico) was annoying, and was a rip off version of Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games series: constantly attempting (and repeatedly failing) at being a so called 'hero'. Her name sucks too.

Although I must say, Zea was DIFFERENT from Katniss in some aspects; where Katniss uses a majestic bow and arrow, Zea uses a... blowpipe. That's right a BLOWPIPE. Not the most effective weapon in my opinion.
For instance not even 2 chapters in and Zea attempts to save a fellow girl from being R'ed by a guard, and ultimately FAILS.

"Krim turns to me, his expression grim, "You're going to sting each of them with your poisoned darts."

My mouth drops open, "But-"

"How else can I cover up your impulsive act?" he snarls.

Any remaining triumph i felt now drains and my shoulders slump in defeat.

The girl I saved steps foward [...]

(excerpt from chapter 1)

THE WHOLE REASON WHY ZEA JOINS THE REBELLION AND ENTERS THE PRINCESS TRIALS IS BECAUSE SHE HAS A CRUSH ON THE GENERAL OF THE REBELLION (Ryce Wintergreen). They could've picked ANY girl to be the spy, but NO they chose ZEA, the most USELESS GIRL IN THE ENTIRE BOOK

Zea has no skills, no personality whatsoever. The train scene, where Zea goes after MIRACULOUSLY wins a candidate place for NO reason, is utterly hilarious. The girls on the train are interviewed, and the interviewer asks Zea why another candidate should be queen, and after Zea answers the interviewer "turns back" without another word, when the other girl begins why Zea should be queen, the interviewer cuts her off:

"Zea would make a great queen," says Forelle.

"She's caring and brave-" "How charming."

All in all, this ridiculous interaction really portrays Zea has an underdog, but it really goes to show how useless she is, in elegance, personality, skillsets etc.

I couldn't make it past chapter 6. The plot was boring as hell, and Zea made me want to claw my eyes out in frustration.
