Honestly the plot was entertaining, but since Quinn was required to do quite a bit of "new world" building (same universe, just wholly new characters), it did seem to feel a bit long and dragged at times. The plot seemed to come at the expense (to an extent) of the characters themselves. However, I still found it enjoyable overall, however rushed the ending felt.

Full disclosure, I have not read the Lost Duke of Wyndham, but they are obviously completely entertained, just from different perspectives. My assumption is that whichever one you read second will feel lesser, since it rehashed the same exact plot.
