4.0

Fast-Paced Action Packed with Well Developed Characters

One-Sentence-Summary: A recently released convict kidnaps his daughter and goes on the run when he finds out a notoriously violent Aryan prison gang has an execution hit on him and his entire family.

5 Star Score: 4/5
10 Star Score: 8/10

A great story that starts quickly, featuring Nate McClusky and his seemingly innocent daughter, Polly on a wild goose chase to escape from the clutches of a ruthless gang of Aryan Steel bent on killing Nate, Polly, and Nate's ex-wife. The reader finds out quickly that Nate's ex-wife and her husband have already been the Steel's victims and that's bad news for Nate, who now realizes the green light, or assassination request, is to be taken seriously. Nate starts off as a cold, deadbeat dad but develops himself in a realistic way. Polly, herself, starts off like an annoying eleven year old, but has a taste for the criminal life in her blood and her complexity is finely woven. In my opinion, author Jordan Harper has enough of this story here to have added another 200 pages to develop some of the other minor characters (Park, Houser, Jimmy) that could have made this book "next-level." However, for a quick 250 read this book checks all my boxes.
