Electra: in a new version by Frank McGuinness by Sophocles

3.0

With the risk of sounding like a total snob, this is not my favourite version of Electra. (Yeah, yeah, I have a degree in Classical Studies, I already know how I sound.) That would have to be Aeschylus' version translated by Robert Fagles. I think if you want to have an antihero, you have to make them likeable, and Electra here is just annoying and moany. If you're trying to decide which version to read, this isn't the one I'd recommend.
