Meacham at top of his game. Some startling parallels to current times in this book, woven into the story of Lincoln and his insistence on ending slavery. When Lincoln was reelected there were protests (by southerners and slaveholders) and attempts to stop the electoral college vote; even to the point of pressuring the Vice President not to confirm the election. January 6th, anyone? Wtf.
