Teenage girl living in a country where the gap in living conditions between rich and poor / "worthy" and "unworthy" is pretty significant. Girl gets selected and is forced to participate in a trial. The trial is a reoccuring event established by the current body of authority, that forces teenagers to fight eachother to death esentially. Said trial also has a host & is broadcasted for all the people to see.  With pre trial interviews & demonstration of skills, of course. Girl meets mysterious teenage boy who she doesn't like very much at first. Girl saves boy, boy saves girl. Girl forms an alliance with boy and starts to get attached.
Girl also stumbles upon a rebellion against the current body of authority and plays a key role in moving the rebellion forward.

Sounds familiar?!

I found out that this book was advertised as "the new Hunger Games" after reading it - and frankly, that's insulting. I don't know who asked for that, but they can keep it.. It's a disgrace and a cringeworthy piece of plagiarism.

I think I would have been able to look past all that if it wasn't for the immense amount of cringing I experienced while listening to this book. I'm glad I had the audiobook because the thought of having to sit down and force my brain to actively participate in reading all this sends shivers down my spine... 🙃

I swear I tried to enjoy it despite all it's flaws but something just wasn't clicking for me with how the caracters interacted and how the story unfolded. My last resort was the romance and even that fell flat for me. It sounded promising based on what I knew going into it, but I was left disappointed.
