Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie
4.0
First off, this is a Jennifer Crusie book so I was pretty sure that I was going to enjoy it. And I did enjoy it but unlike most Crusie books this one took a bit of time to get started. It was a bit slow to begin with and it wasn't until I was about 100 pages in before I was turning the pages and wondering what was going to happen next.
This is also a departure from Crusie (at least in my experience) because this has at least a slight paranormal bent to it. Not something I'm used to reading with this author! Not that I'm complaining about it; on the contrary it was amusing and added some definite humor to the book. Isolde Hammersmith, the medium in the book, is one of those fun characters that you love the minute she appears on the page.
That's one of Crusie's strengths in my opinion and this book is no exception. Her characters are fun and quirky in a lot of ways. Even the characters that are meant to be the villains in the story are enjoyable and interesting. You love to hate them!
