Jude my sweet darling girl you know I love you and I think you’re so clever but in this you were a FOOL !!! When I finished the Wicked King I was wondering why she didn’t just pardon herself from her exile but I figured since she didn’t there was something else that was stopping her, so I started doubting myself. But turns out I was right and it was actually that easy. This is like Amarantha’s riddle in ACOTAR all over again LMAO.

I really liked how this skipped most of her time in exile though and jumped straight into the faerie world again. Taryn killing Locke was such a girlboss moment I can’t even be mad. Getting Jude to pretend to be Taryn was very smart, and Jude and Cardan’s reunion… Absolutely incredible. Looking him straight into the eyes and saying “Jude never loved Locke. She loved someone else. He’s the one she’d want dead” I SCREAMED.

BUT MY FAVOURITE PART? JUDE AND CARDAN FINALLY ADMITTING TO ACTUALLY LIKING LOVING EACH OTHER.

“Do not touch her.”
“Whatever can you mean? She’s—“
She is my wife, the rightful Queen of Elfhame. And most definitely not in exile.”

I JUST FELL TO MY KNEEEEES!!!

”I missed you, in the mortal world, when I thought you were my enemy, I still missed you.”
“My sweet nemesis, how glad I am that you returned.”

This copy didn’t have Cardan’s letters to Jude in it but a friend told me about them so I googled them and oh my god. This boy is down so bad. I love him. I love them. I genuinely think this is one of my favourite ships ever, their dynamic is impeccable.

This book’s ending absolutely broke me though. I don’t even want to think about the horror I felt when Cardan turned into that serpent. I hoped Jude would find a way to cure him, but I really didn’t think she would. I thought she was gonna either capture him and rule Elfhame as the terrifying mortal High Queen with serpent Cardan by her side, or kill him and still rule Elfhame as the terrifying mortal High Queen. I never actually believed he would come back but oh my god am I glad that he did.

I’m really sad that this series has come to an end but I truly loved it and I’m sure I’ll reread it again in the future. I just love Jude and Cardan too much to not.
