Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin

3.0

I liked the ties to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. (Which is the other book I’ve read by this author.) However even as GT’s son, Rendí didn’t seem fully realized the way Minli was. There were also more unexplained phenomena in this as well. The mountain didn’t work in the end for me because of some jade, and I still don’t know what the Day of Five Poisons is, any of the noxious animals, or how the wang symbol protects its wearer. But I’d recommend it as an easy read to students that like fantasy. The beginning is very slow though.
