The Magnolia Story by Joanna Gaines, Chip Gaines
4.0
I recently heard this book mentioned on the podcast Library Overload and I had the book so it seemed like a good time to read it. I am a big fan of Chip and Joanna Gaines! My husband and I love watching HGTV. We even went to Magnolia in Waco (twice!) and went to their first store on Bosque Blvd which is now an outlet store with their stuff. One thing I loved is the fact that they will only go 30 minutes away from Waco when doing Fixer Upper because of their family. I loved that! Also, I never noticed that they don't put in TVs to the houses they renovate. They do not even own a TV themselves. Chip is absolutely crazy but this is why opposites attract. They definitely have had a lot of luck on their side, or divine intervention, because most people would not have survived the things they have been through. I read the hardback but my library had the ebook so I checked it out also and I am glad I did because the ebook had an interview at the end which I enjoyed reading as well.
Chip: "I realized most people don't want to do what it takes to do a lot of things. I made up my mind right then and there-I would do whatever it takes to be successful."
Jo: "But Chip did what Chip does and made all those facts, all that logic, seem irrelevant."
Jo: "If all I'm doing is creating beautiful spaces, I'm failing. But if I'm creating beautiful spaces where families are thriving, then I'm really doing something."
Jo: "Go and find what it is that inspires you, go and find what it is that you love, and go do that until it hurts. Don't quit, and don't give up. The reward is just around the corner."
Jo: I see the goal, I just want to get there. Chip is like, "Let's enjoy it. It's going to take a little longer, but let's just have fun getting there."
