This book is fantastic! Amnesia stories can be hit or miss and this is a definite hit. You felt the all of the emotions these two men were struggling with profoundly.
Sean’s frustration with not being able to remember and being confused about how different his life is than the one he remembered was depicted so well. Jack, oh my heart, I hurt so bad for Jack who had to experience enemies to lovers with the man he was already in love with.
You just want to scream at both of them to just say the thing a lot but you also understand the precarious nature of their situation and why Jack in particular holds back so much.
This story is beautifully done and you will love the journey it takes you on.
I often talk about the nuances that make up the difference between writing authentic Black characters and writing white coded Black characters. Sasha did the research to give a gay Black man whose lived experience is that of a gay Black man. In this case he’s aboriginal and an athlete and that adds others layers to it that she researched and sought reader who could provide the perspective she needed.
