A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

5.0

Fans of the Serial podcast are going to devour this mystery/suspense that feels like it was pulled right off the news!

Pip is your typical high school overachiever -- loves homework, works hard, and obstacles in her way are met with "challenge accepted". So, for her senior Capstone project she chooses the biggest obstacle her town has to offer: the disappearance and presumed death of Andie Bell, and the tragic court of public opinion guilty verdict of Andie's boyfriend, Sal. Told in Pip's first-person point-of-view interwoven with essays and interviews for her Capstone project, readers work alongside Pip and Sal's brother, Ravi, as they try to unravel the mystery of Andie's disappearance to prove Sal's innocence. Lies, secrets, cover-ups, and surprises meet Pip at every turn, but she's determined to solve this case and prove Sal is innocent, regardless of what it costs her.

Thoughts: Oh my gosh, this is my favorite book that I've read so far this year! I loved the different mediums used to tell the story (definitely made it easier to binge-read) and the storyline is so true-crime-esque that it felt like reading a podcast. The sarcastic humor between Pip and her family and Pip/Ravi reminded me so much of the movie Easy A that I found myself laughing despite the heavy subjects. I really enjoyed Holly Jackson's writing style and the way she captured Pip's and Ravi's tumultuous emotions with each plot twist, and their dynamic is just spot-on. I can't wait to read the next in the series!
