Frustrated with this one because when I started it I truly didn’t know what was going to happen next & it wasn’t very predictable.
And then the last chapter felt incredibly rushed. Like first attempt at writing it, no edits, rushed. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
There was also a lot of, what I found to be, unnecessary French in the book. & I didn’t love the unnecessary romance of one of the characters later in the book and how that same character is always making stupid decisions, feels like a lazy way to move the plot or make things work.
Again - I appreciate the mystery and how it unraveled but there was so much unnecessary information and side plots that felt pointless and so many side plots left unanswered.
4 stars because the foundation of the book and story were there and the first 80% of the book I was hooked. But the ending was mostly flat.
