Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

3.0

I read it in about a day, but not because it was hard to put down, more because I had a lot of time and it was easy to read.
I’m not saying it wasn’t good, it was just, for me, frustrating. I love ya fiction and I love chick-lit so I thought I’d like this, I thought it had promise. I was disappointed. The writing seemed juvenile and repetitive, I found Lani to be sort of annoying, though perhaps that’s more to do with me disliking astrology, palmistry and general belief in fate and Destiny. You’re probably asking why I even thought I’d like this book, the synopsis was misleading.
I thought a couple of times about just giving up, but I didn’t and I'm glad I didn’t. It got better, there’s a point of conflict in it and I think the way it’s written and handled is actually pretty good. I liked the side characters, Blake in particular, but they all had depth which was quite nice.
Overall, probably 5/10, would hesitantly recommend, but with a warning.
