Funny Story by Emily Henry

Emily Henry is an auto buy author for me. She does such a beautiful job of writing meaningful, heartfelt stories that still have that fun rom com feeling to them. This one has been compared to New Girl & I would agree. The premise is similar girl moves in to an apartment (I pictured the New Girl loft) with a male roommate also going through a breakup (totally reminded me of Nick Miller). The difference is her fiancé left her for his childhood best friend who happens to be her new roommate’s ex girlfriend. It is a messy funny plot. What makes it stand out to me is that even with the hijinks Emily Henry manages to capture how brutal heartbreak/betrayal is and all the feelings that come with it (anger, self doubt, grief, pain).  She also captures the best part of heartbreak that comes as you build a new life and learn to trust yourself (relief, hope, gratitude, love). Highly recommend this book
