The Silence Between Us
by Alison Gervais
2.5
If you have a child with breathing issues, you wouldn't move them to a high elevation, where those breathing problems will just get worse. No wonder he ended up in the hospital.
Maya was incredibly judgemental. She seemed to hate hearing people, even though she was hearing for over 75% of her life. She seemed to forget that she could ever hear and acted like wanting to was the worst thing in the world. She judged people for wanting to be able to hear and getting cochlear implants. And she judged hearing people (Beau) for trying to communicate with her but would get mad if they wouldn't try. If somebody becomes deaf at 13, they aren't just going to suddenly get over and think it's great. There's no way she wouldn't be upset about suddenly loosing her hearing.
The romance was not great. Maya and Beau had no chemistry. It wouldn've been great for Beau to give up on her after realizing how self-centered and whiny she was.
