Where She Went by Gayle Forman
2.0

I was surprised by this book. I abhorred the first book and was ready to be disappointed with this one...in some ways I was still very disappointed but I was also surprised by some of it and acknowledged as a reader that the ending is exactly what we expected it to be even if it felt pretty unoriginal.

See I was very disappointed with how we learned about Mia’s recovery. The first 60% of the book focuses on Adam. It makes him look like a paranoid, self absorbed junkie - a star that burned himself out quickly. It took so long to unravel what was really wrong with Adam that at some point I almost didn’t care. We don’t even actually hear from Mia until later on in the book. I understand the amount of devastation that these characters went through however its very politely tip toed around and only truly acknowledged emotionally by Adam. I was more upset that this book focused on Adam than anything. I mean from his career to his smoking habits and his feelings. It was centered around Adam. It wasn’t until the last 10% that the book focused on BOTH Adam and Mia.

I was pretty surprised with how things went with the band and then by how long it took Adam to actually speak his mind to Mia. It wasn’t really a pleasant surprise but more of a Really?! kind of surprised. It took all night and then a monumental melt down before Adam even felt grown up enough to ask the questions he needed answers too. Mia of course left it all alone and acted like things were totally ok o.O WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?! Their interaction felt very vague (with exception of ONE scene!) So yea...i was surprised.

There was a flashback at the end that came out of nowhere and i was pretty shocked at how quickly everything was forgiven. I can’t really say what needs to be forgiven without spoiling the book :\ It all just felt a little too easy for these two. Granted, it WASN'T easy for the both of them but the resolution was just like “welp! I guess everything is just unicorn farts and sparkling stars!” -_- NOTHING is that easy.

I don’t know. I just wasn’t satisfied at the end. I’m not sure how to explain why I was so disappointed but It sure felt like I missed a whole section of the book. I’m glad I got it off my TBR shelf but I don’t think I’d recommend this to anyone i know.
