If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, ANYTHING MIA SHERIDAN WRITES, I’M READING! With the new re-release of this story, and me not having read this book yet, I immediately had to get my hands on it. With tropes such as, fake marriage, marriage of convenience, set at a Napa Valley Vineyard, forced proximity, grumpy/ sunshine, and he calls her, “my wife”! Mia continues to blow me away with her beautiful writing style, intriguing characters, and a whole lot of heart mixed into the plot line.

Kira Dallaire and Grayson Hawthorn were two completely different individuals yet they also shared some similarities. Both grew up in wealthy families, but it wasn’t all perfect as it seemed. The beginning of the story showed Kira down on her luck, no job, no home, essentially no where else to turn to. Grayson trying to keep his father’s vineyard from falling into ruin didn’t have the necessary funds to keep it going. Both Kira and Grayson needed some luck or better yet money to solve their problems. Ta-Da! With Kira’s idea of a proposal of marriage to Grayson, she’d help Grayson out and he’d help her out. The marriage aspect of the proposal was paramount as it played a role in how Kira would be able to gain access to the inheritance her grandmother left her… as you guessed it with the clause of if and when Kira got married, she could have her inheritance. Seemed like a good idea right?

I loved the fact that Kira came up with this idea, like realistic speaking I don’t know if this would happen in real life, but hey! For the sake of the story, I’m willing to believe it might be possible. Plus, if I had the chance to get married to Grayson, I wouldn’t be opposed to that idea!

Kira was spirited, feisty, kind, and a tad bit impulsive at times, case in point her crazy idea of a fake marriage/ marriage of convenience with Grayson. I really liked how Kira was energetic, a ray of sunshine mixed with mischief, that woman found herself in some interesting situations along the way. From coming face to face with Grayson before going to her shower… butt naked to accidentally destroying a precious wine Grayson’s late father cherished. I found myself laughing along the way which I wasn’t necessarily expecting. Kira really was lots of fun and I admired her determination to make her own way through the world without relying on her dad’s connections/ money. For being constantly perceived as a high society rich girl, Kira was anything but that. Kira really was down to earth, funny, sassy, and when the occasion arose she was prepared to get down and dirty to get the job done.

Grayson was serious, grumpy, and determined to revive his father’s vineyard. Based off the few details mentioned earlier on in the story, it seemed that Grayson dealt a lot with his father’s passing, and promising to himself to make the vineyard great as it once was. Plus, when finding out that Grayson was back home after serving time in prison, that literally caught me off guard like, how did that man end up in prison?? Obviously the story later explained it, but again, I wasn’t expecting that. Grayson might have been a grumpy man, but he had some tender moments that revealed just how much was beneath the cold exterior he kept up in order to protect himself. I loved seeing Grayson starting to warm up to Kira and just like Charlotte (Grayson’s housekeeper) said, there was a fire within him that brought him back to life. With Grayson and Kira constantly going toe to toe, challenging and pushing each other’s buttons, it was a way of bringing Grayson out of the walls he kept himself behind.

While the proposal of a fake marriage and to keep things business was the original plan, Kira and Grayson soon didn’t keep to that idea at all. I was waiting for the moment when Kira and Grayson would become romantically involved, especially for the grand moments of Grayson calling Kira his “wife”! It was all so satisfying once those scenes came along! Grayson was mostly just a grumpy man who had been dealt with some seriously negative memories from his childhood to even his adulthood from a variety of things, but with Kira he started to open up and in a way find joy and laughter that he hadn’t experienced in quite a long time. One of my favorite (among others) scenes was when not only Grayson started to realize he wanted something more with Kira, but when Kira got sick GRAYSON NURSED HER BACK TO HEALTH! (Sniff) it’s the little things that always get me and seeing how worried Grayson got over Kira highlighted just how much he had grown to care about her. Yes there were still some moments when either Grayson or Kira would deflect or try to protect themselves from getting hurt, but through it all, the way they got closer to one another, had funny/ flirty banter, and allowed themselves to explore their feelings for each other was a lovely thing to witness. Plus, let’s not forget the few laughable moments within this story such as, when Charlotte gave Grayson a certain herbal remedy that… may have worked a little too strongly in terms of heightening Grayson’s desire for Kira! Haha!

Mia Sheridan has done it again! Truly made me fall in love and cherish these amazing characters! Kira was a sassy spitfire who, was determined and quite clever with her Very Bad Ideas haha. Grayson was a man who worked hard to get in a place where he felt and believed he was worth love and respect. A bit of a second chance for Grayson in terms of trying to move forward in his life and away from his past, his character growth was inspiring. I absolutely adored this book and as the story progressed I was smiling, gasping, swooning, and of course getting emotional and crying as usual when I read Mia’s books. Towards the end, it got a bit more dramatic that made for some interesting plot twists and reveals like whoa! The beauty of this story was seeing Kira and Grayson come together in an unexpected way, but through it finding a love that they formed together. I cannot stress how much I really loved reading this book and I loved the marriage of convenience trope! Plus, the amount of times when Grayson called Kira his “wife” in a multitude of ways had me screaming like a school girl! I loved the way the story ultimately ended especially with the epilogue of showing how even years down the line both Grayson and Kira were living happily together, thriving with their successful business, and being surrounded by many loved ones! (Sigh) I feel truly happy and I cannot get over the pure love and happiness I feel having finished this book. Like any book by Mia Sheridan, do yourself a favor and read it!
