I've read several other Steinbeck's and finally got around to reading this famous novel. Steinbeck does a great job of portraying the time period of the great depression, and I really enjoyed how he alternated between telling the story of the Joad's with a more general discussion of the great migration. However, I only rated it three stars because I was very unsatisfied with the ending. I understand the ending was supposed to portray that the Joad's continually gave what other's needed, but I felt the reader deserved a more final verdict as to what happened to them.
