Death on the Riviera by John Bude

3.0

This is my second Bude. I wasn't a fan of the first one I read (The Cornish Coast Murder), and I wasn't a huge fan of this one either. Too much expository writing (as in things like "little did he know that this small delay would lead to dastardly consequences!"), characters were barely likeable, the murder didn't even occur until 3/4 of the way in. The scene-setting in the south of France was pleasant though, and there were a couple of good bits of sleuthing that I enjoyed very much. The end was all right, though it did leave one character flapping in the wind. There is a romantic dimension that added to rather than detracted from the book's enjoyment.
