“Life is actually a series of encounters in which one event may change those that follow in a wholly unpredictable, even devastating way.”
This is a brilliant horror thriller, heavy on the horror. It takes a hot minute to get there, but Crichton never bores you along the way.
My biggest gripe is that he does a shitty job writing women. Granted there are only two, and one is a young girl, but still, they both feel like passengers to the action around them. I appreciate how Spielberg made Lex a lot less annoying than she is written in the book. In the book it’s almost like she is nothing more than live commentary. Ellie feels invisible for much of the book.
Also, this is a book about chaos theory winning, but dear god, is there a more annoying character than Ian Malcolm?
Other than that, it’s a damn great book.
