Forever Never
by Lucy Score
3 sta- wait, no. 2.5 rounded up (explained below).
Lucy Score is a good storyteller. The setting was exquisite. The plot was strong. The supporting characters were beautifully flawed and relatable. But the main characters left much to be desired.
This is a highly erotic, slow burn, on-again-off-again romance dotted with suspense and crime fiction. For that, I was game. What I was NOT game for was an emotionally immature nearly 40-year-old man tiptoeing the line of sadism. At moments, it felt like a winterized version of 50 shades.
And for a writer as talented as Lucy, I back down to 2.5 stars for this line alone:
“His hair stood up like he’d been running his hands through it. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a black hoodie. For some reason, that made her nipples harden. But she wasn’t here for her nipples - she was here for her heart.”
If you can read that without laughing out loud, this book might be for you.
