very exciting! the whirling pov switches felt like the same maze the characters were in, and made for a very hard to put down book. I’d find myself saying “I’ll stop after this chapter” then realizing I’d blown past it by several pages.

this did not have the dreaded Short Book Syndrome; I knew just enough about the chars to make them feel real, but not enough to bog down the plot. pacing was quite good! ending was abrupt, but not necessarily in a bad way. it felt like the ending of Eli: lots of potential, but also a fair ending to the plot

I really like when authors take whiteness and privilege and incarnate it into tangible forms of creatures, magic, murder. something so silent yet pervasive bubbling up into visible monstrosity … scrumptious!

I didn’t come into this book expecting much, and as such I am pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it!
