Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

What an emotionally beautiful story about two rival viking clans while a girl discovers that people aren't that different from those who they hate. I found that it was a lot less romantic than I initially thought it would be, instead the book focuses a lot on the main protagonists, Eelyn, relationship with her father, friend, brother and then the people she meets in her rival clan.
I really liked this book even thought I felt like it could have developed the romance a bit more, it was a very good read and had very well written and unique side characters. I liked all the historical references to viking culture and religion which is nicely simplified for modern readers who might not know lots about Viking history. The plot isn't super fast paced throughout the whole book but it is reasonably dramatic and there are several fast paced exciting moments.
I really loved how this book got its name! I loved the main character and how realistic the story was. Overall it was a really decent read but perhaps not as mature as I personally would have liked. It wasn't too gory but there was violence and there were implied threats of rape but when it came to any 'spicy' scenes it just faded to the next chapter which seemed immature. I would say this book is good for people aged 13 and up but I still enjoyed it lots.
