How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao

Personally, the plot was pretty mid. cut and dry thriller, don't expect any mind-blowing twists.

However, culturally, this book kinda hit home for me in some places, as an Asian Canadian. The pressure to perform and do well in school as well as all the cultural references, I could really relate to it. There was a Boys over Flowers reference in this book and to be honest i'm like. Is this dated or is it a cultural icon? That one moment where some random said "you're smart because you're asian" really hit home. Like oof.

We read this book from Nancy's point of view and so we read her thoughts of how she scraped and fought for every bit of success she's had and she still needs more to succeed. She needs to be the best, since she doesn't have the advantage of money like the others do.

I really like Nancy, probably because I can see some of myself in her. She's a girl boss and I love her for it.
SpoilerI think probably it would have been more fun if the person who killed Jamie actually was Nancy, especially since we're reading the book from her POV. Like villain arc, girl boss style just killed her to get ahead and then gaslit her friends into taking her side. But also that's just me lmfao.
