This book was unbelievably sad but beautifully written. Definitely flawed characters but not one-dimensional in their flaws. My biggest critique would be that I would have loved to get the perspective of other characters in the story, not just the two narrators. Mae seemed like an interesting character who experienced so much and yet we learned very little about her.
