My obsession with Murderbot has no end. I fell in love with this story just like I fell in love with every other chapter of its adventures. Hard and fast.
It's not easy to talk about his book because it's so interconnected with the whole of the series.
System Collapse talks about Muderbot, ART, and the crew's next adventure at the Adamantine colony. Their rescue plan is not as easy as they planned, and they soon need to send a small team, secured by Murderbot, on a mission to save some more humans.
It's exciting, full of twists, full of emotions (we don't talk about), and full of friendship.
Murderbot is definitely one of my all-time characters. It is so very interesting how it tries to reconcile its human brain with its bot protocols. I never think it can surprise me more, but it always does. In this book, it suffers from some kind of PTSD or at least flashbacks from its previous mission, which emphasise its emotions and fears. And up until now, we didn't really get a glimpse into its fears. And its biggest fear is losing the humans or not saving them.
It's astounding to me how much it cares. It cares for its humans. It cares for ART, it cares for other bots and SecUnits, and it even cares for unknown people who might be in danger. In this chapter, we see into what helped it reach this level of emphaty, and it's brilliant.
As always, the dry humour and sarcasm, Murderbot's remarks regarding the situations and the interaction between it and ART and the humans make the story entertaining and funny. I snorted a few times.
The whole series is also so heartwarming. Seeing Murderbot try to reconcile its feelings. Seeing the humans care for it as much as they care for each other. It just gives me hope.
All in all, this was awesome, and I am ready for more!
