Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

2.0

Wuthering Heights has very poetic prose and does well to embody Gothic themes, but Emily Bronte could not have written more detestable characters. Not a single character (besides maybe background characters such as the milkman and random little boy on the last page, go figure) is a good person.

I think its a great work for academic study for a variety of reasons, but as someone who studies literature, this book is not very captivating unless you like drama where there is not a single character you can root for to keep reading.

Descriptions of Catherine and Heathcliff's relationship is SOOO poetic, truly, but please call help for any of your friends or family members who praise their love for each other. It is a destructive gothic romance for a reason.
