Man-Eaters, Vol. 1 by Chelsea Cain

3.0

I love the premise of the comic, but the execution fell a little flat for me. The actual story bits were entertaining, and I did enjoy the propaganda between issues, but for issue 4 to be a complete in-universe publication was too much, too soon. I also had a pretty hard time suspending disbelief because the premise was SO completely absurd and instead of just explaining it away via alternate reality or distant future or even wizard magic or whatever, there's a vague attempt at science that only opens a can of plausibility worms. I hope the series finds its stride in the next volume, and I really hope transgender and nonbinary people are addressed, because I would be all over a story about this society from that point of view.

I received a free digital copy for review from Image Comics and Edelweiss.
