We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough

3.75

I’m always torn when it comes to writing reviews for thrillers, but I’ll try my best not to give away too much.

We Live Here Now is the latest mystery thriller from our queen, Sarah Pinborough. This one follows a couple moving into a house with sinister secrets. It opens with a raven’s point of view, perched across from the house and from that moment I knew this story was going to be creepy; perfect for a late night read. The atmosphere is eerie and unsettling right from the start. We get dual narrations from unreliable characters, each hiding something of their own. I’ve read other books by Sarah Pinborough and while I’m usually not too creeped out by her writing, this one genuinely scared me at times. Ouija boards, creaking floors, scratching nails—it all sets the perfect haunted tone.
One of my favorite parts was the twist revealed through reading a book within the book.
It gave me the ultimate horror story vibe and I loved that detail. Around the 75% mark, the story did become a bit predictable for me, but honestly, that might’ve been intentional and it didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all.

I read this alongside the audiobook and really loved the experience. I won’t say too much more, just know you’re in for a chilling, atmospheric horror with a house full of secrets.
