“The future was here, and it was a fucking mess.”
“I had extraordinary dreams and an ordinary mind.”
I was nervous before getting into this that it wouldn’t hold up to Recursion or Dark Matter though it had my undivided attention from the start. It was very fast-paced and action-packed. I finished this in a day!
I loved how all the perils of gene editing were explored and wouldn’t be surprised if this will be our future. The biology was very believable and fantastically written. All the concepts/possibilities were terrifying to imagine though they were fun.
“No one teaches you how to handle the death of a dream.”
I loved that Logan wasn’t a super genius and dreamed of achieving things beyond his scope of skills.
It did lag a bit in the middle but managed to end on a great note with thought-provoking questions that needed asking.
It's still a 4 star read for me because it didn’t blow me away. The ending didn’t surprise me but the epilogue was beautiful.
I highly recommend this to all the hard sci-fi lovers.
"It's denial. Selfishness. Magical thinking. We are not rational beings. We seek comfort rather than a clear-eyed stare into reality. We consume and preen and convince ourselves that if we keep our heads in the sand, the monsters will just go away. Simply put, we refuse to help ourselves as a species. We refuse to do what must be done. Every danger we face links ultimately back to this failing."
“Life never really goes the way you want or expect. Usually, even getting exactly what you want turns out not to have been what you really wanted. So, my son, if you ever find a sliver of happiness and peace, just be thankful and live. Don't reach for more, because a sliver is more than most people ever find.”
