Writing is absolutely engaging but the story boarding itself is so odd. Irrelevant characters and their arcs.
Also this seemed to be more invested horror and fantasy world building than actually building a connection with Argentinian politics. The synopsis is misleading because it’s sort of mentioned only as context. And where it is connected it feels so on the nose. The cult is called the “The Order”. And the dark entity they worship is called the “Darkness”. So oddly unimaginative and banal.
Only enjoyed reading about the complicated relationship between Juan and Gaspar. Rest all characters felt very filler- like and overstaying their welcome. There’s a character called Tali for example, who’s given a lot of importance in the beginning but doesn’t even show up in 90% rest of the book. She’s only mentioned sparingly. Maybe Gaspar’s friends were interesting and could be the only side characters needed.
With that being said— the horror elements are genuinely written so well. Most of the writing energy was well spent there.
