The Knowledge Gap: The Hidden Cause of America's Broken Education System--And How to Fix It by Natalie Wexler

informative medium-paced

5.0

I got to see Natalie Wexler present at a conference, and even before that I was a big fan of The Writing Revolution, so I was really excited to dive into this book!

I think the presentation of info was really well done, and the book was engaging while also being very informative. As an educator, a lot of the points Wexler made felt extremely validating. I’m lucky right now to be at a school where I have a lot more power in my curriculum, but I could see this book being frustrated for likeminded educators without that privilege. Not bad frustration, but it’s hard when you can see the system not working yet are unable to make the changes you know are needed to better support kids.

I think all educators would benefit from reading this, especially lower education teachers. Kids need more knowledge, and the sooner we start building that the better.
