The book was quite confusing in the beginning. The way it started was unusual and all the terms specific to the world unclear. But as I was reading on, the world started making more and more sense. I actually enjoy being thrown right into the narrative from the very beginning and uncovering details about the world and characters on the go. Later I couldn't put the book down -- "just one more page...":). As I finished it, I immediately started the next book from the series.

I loved "The fifth season"! It's a very original book, the world is imaginative and rich, filled with unique details, creatures, powers, problems, food, slang, races, injustices, even types of hair. The characters are realistic and flawed, experiencing a lot of troubles, going through challenges and adventures.

The three stories that are told will converge at a certain point, but I don't want to say too much, I think it's more enjoyable to discover what's behind them on your own. As I uncovered more about the world and characters, I also had more questions, some of which remained unanswered. I hope they will be answered in the following books.

The story seems to have many layers, and as soon as you discover one of them, you start seeing the next. It's such a complex world, and there is so much to it that it feels real. There are also issues like inequality, injustice and oppression raised in the book. There are no direct parallels to our world, all of these things are very specific to the world of the book, but they got me thinking.

All in all, this is one of my favorite books now, and I can't wait to read the next.
