3.0
Characters: 5
Grog was rude and generally unlikeable, in my opinion. Which is a shame because I was so excited to see a frog wizard as the lead for a graphic novel series! Not sure what the point of the artist lady in the market was. I liked the siblings and the magical lizard thing, but I felt that they were underutilized if the story was meant to be about them (was it?).
Art: 9
The art style is what initially drew me to this graphic novel. I love this playful, cartoony style. It's reminiscent of Adventure Time with it's almost plush affinity for rounded edges and strong character design.
Writing: 5
Lots of crude humor and general rudeness in place of actually funny jokes. A little underwritten when it comes to the actual heartfelt content of Grog being a sort of spirital guide (?).
Plot: 7
Okay but if I think about the plot independent of the characters, I actually like it. I think the execution of it with the characters that I didn't like just didn't work for me.
Intrigue: 7
I kept reading hoping to find something I would like about this but unfortunately that never happened. But it did keep me reading...
Logic: 7
I don't think lack of logic was the problem. There was nonsense, of course, because it is a fantasy about a frog wizard set in a world that is ripe with nonsense. I respect that. I think the nonsense could have been a bit more developed though.
Enjoyment: 5
I found this super disappointing, honestly. I wanted more fantasy and whimsy. Instead I got a rude frog and a story that felt a little directionless.
