Baby-Sitters Beware by Nola Thacker, Ann M. Martin

1.0

Wow, worst of both worlds: not only is this as convoluted and dull as a regular BSC Mystery, it's also as disjointed and poorly-paced as a regular Super Special. Someone is out to get the sitters, threatening them with notes and near-miss attacks, and the sitters are worried that someone whom they helped to put behind bars in a previous mystery is back for revenge. This is a book that rewards paying attention to the actual plot of the previous mysteries, which I have not done. At a certain point, some of the sitters take a break to go for a winter ski vacation at Shadow Lake.

Other than abject fear, there's very little emotion here, except for a small and irrelevant subplot where Claudia resent Abby being too overbearing about teaching skiing.

The Very Most Annoying Thing About This Book, Though:
SpoilerA whole entire plotline doesn't get solved at all! A creepy side plot with seemingly no connection to the main thread is that Logan and Mary Anne are receiving creepy notes in each other's handwriting. This was the only part of the mystery that I felt genuinely interested in the answer because it was not obvious and it turns out the reason why is because there LITERALLY WAS NO SOLUTION. It's just a Lost-style random red herring. You can't do that!!!!

Author Gratefully Acknowledges: Nola Thacker

Timing: Winter. Kristy keeps praying for snow to improve the ski vacation.
