This was a charming, historical fiction with both mystery and fantasy aspects.
I listened to the audiobook and think that the narrator does a good job, particularly I feel her voice is a good fit for the FMC. The only thing I did find was a little off was her attempt at the Spanish accent for one particular character. The book is single POV, first person. Although it is a slower pace, it is also an easy read, engaging, and somewhat lighthearted.
I really enjoy the characters, they all have their own unique charm. I also am enjoying the dynamics between the FMC and MMC, there is definitely romantic tension there but it would also be frowned upon relationship (due to the time period). This seems to be a slow burn. The magic system is also very unusual and I am enjoying learning about it as well uncovering the secrets and unknowns of the FMC and MMC pasts and lineages. I am enjoying the series, it is great to have one more lighthearted than a lot of my other reads, somewhat of a palate cleanser.
