I came to this via Uprooted and Spinning Silver. Novik’s narrative voice is quite different. Less sentimental, faster paced. It’s like Master and Commander. Maybe I preferred it to her other books because it’s ultimately shorter. But I also loved Temeraire’s voice and perspective. Intelligent with the cutting perception of a outsider, naturally caring and socially acceptable, occasionally distracted by draconic impulses.
