A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
4.0
adventurous emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

More and more, I'm kinda convinced that Maas decides on the scenes that she wants to write - whether that's exact character interactions or these big set-piece moments - lines them all up, and then weaves as many of them together as she can into a book.  And yet, despite some of the sillier quirks of her writing (the invisible lint, the growling, the males...), I do enjoy how gratuitous some of those scenes are. It's over-the-top escapism, bordering on gratuitous wish-fulfilment. I'm not too proud to admit that a lot of the tropes tick a lot of my boxes just so and that's always fun.

Life is short, but also life is terribly and insufferably long, so enjoy whatever media brings you joy, folks.
