How to Get a Life in Ten Dates by Jenny L. Howe
3.0
So let me start with what this book did well:
- we LOVE a plus size character. Not just for the representation but also because it counteracted common narratives such as "fat" being a bad term and not a simple descriptor.
- it had a fun premise. Loved the questionnaire that gave us a peek into each date
- lots of good parallelism with the structure of each date and chapter and list of rules
But it lost me at a lot of places:
- the date that she ended up with that could've been good? I wish there had been a more concrete reason to end it. It was like the physical attraction just disappeared??
- the tenth date could've had more of a twist. We knew it was coming but how it came could have been more nuanced or creative.
- the ending was just too much.
So solid read overall! Wouldn't recommend it or be keen to read more, but wouldn't dissuade someone from giving it a shot either!
