Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood

hopeful lighthearted reflective medium-paced

5.0

i really didn’t wanna give another ali hazelwood book a 5 star reading… but here i am

in a way she managed to combine a light read with so many important messages! AGAIN!
ali hazelwood is one of the most lovable, feministisc authors in romance novels!!
the way she thematises emancipated young, strong girls standing up for them selfs is breathtaking.
mallory greenleaf (the main character) is a role model for every girl out there. dominating herself in the sexist world of chess, sets a statement for all of us.
you are not unworthy of doing something because you’re a woman! just like mallory, many of us don’t even notice how big of an impact the male dominated society has on all of our minds. we believe that our chances against men are less, than against women. bullshit.

now to mallory and nolan…
those two…. they hold so many truly beautiful interactions without becoming too intimate/unrealistic.
i love that they don’t start doing anything for the majority of the book.
slow burn romance at its best

(first kiss after 2/3 of the book)
PLUS HE WAS A VIRGIN (was ;))

+ the ending had me in tears
