One of the best reads I had in a long while. A beautiful weave of stories, some with a touch of supernatural, some creepy and chilling, others melancholic or sad, but all interconnected, all about the people and the Japanese culture and about a city that might be a living, breathing character in itself. And the cat that sees them all in one form or another.
On the second read, I found the links I missed the first time. I found new depths in the characters and I empathized with them, hated and loved them for their mistakes and for their life choices. The author built them masterfully with consideration for a culture that is not his own. For that reason alone if not for all the above, this book is a must-read.
