Olive is a character that you beg to just do the thing you know she is eventually going to do so she doesn't cause herself any more stress. The book would be a third shorter if the characters actually just talked to eachother and told the truth but then it would also lose a lot of its charm, and where is the fun in that. The plot is highly predictable, but I also don't mind because the characters are so likeable that you are invested in them ending up where they should. And because Hazelwood's style is so easy to read you are happy to struggle towards the resolution that couldve been reached 10 chapters ago if Olive had just told the truth. The 🌶 was well written in a way that other books would often make cringey, and the characters remain themselves afterwards instead of melting into pools of mush like they would in so many other versions of this story. Will definitely be reaching for more books from Ali Hazelwood in the future.
